There were many debut authors in 2013 who are amazing, but one woman in particular immediately came to mind: A.G. Howard. I have a pretty big girl crush on her [she hasn't filed a restraining order yet] and Splintered is definitely one of my favorites of the year.

There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own.

I would say, Alyssa, as my favourite character n Splintered. To be honest, it's really hard to choose between Jeb and Morpheus, so I guess my decision lies in Alyssa's choice :) Another factor would be how I can relate to Alyssa's feelings and how she thinks, in a way...

ReplyDeleteOkay, on to your actual question, now that I've vented: in the original tale, I always loved the caterpillar and the Cheshire Cat. I believe it's only fitting, yes? - seeing as how I adore MORPHEUS and Chessie more than life itself in Anita's version!!! Now that I think about it...it's rather funny that my favorites from 30+ years ago are also my favorites in this latest iteration! Of course, when I was 6 I had no idea I'd be in love-lust with who mr. caterpillar grows up to be, HA!!!
(Must say again, dangit all, I'm so mad I didn't see your post on this the day it came out!! Clearly I need to force Gmail to move YOUR posts to my primary inbox instead of under the new social tab thingamajig they've created where all my blogger emails go!!!!
