The time it was all bookish mail -- 3

Welcome to another episode of Signed Books I Got in the Mail...

Sarah Dessen was announced at the 2013 Festival of Books.  She also was going to be signing at the B&N in Huntington Beach over that same weekend.  I didn't want to deal with the crowd that I knew would be flocking to her, mostly because I had never read one of her books.  Thankfully, Jenn was going to be attending a Sarah event and was willing to pick something up for me.

I did send an arc of one of Sarah's books, but Hubs fucked up the address and it didn't get there.  At all.  So, Jenn came to the rescue and bought me a book! Now I can officially add Sarah to the collection.

When Elizabeth Norris announced that any pre-ordered copies of Unbreakable from Books of Wonder would receive special bonus material [including an alternate ending], I placed my order that day.  A couple of days before the book was released, Elizabeth tweeted me and said that she had just signed my book.  I didn't want to get my hopes up since BoW usually has a "no inscription/personalization" rule.

I shouldn't have doubted her because the inscription is glorious.  Also? That means every single copy of Unraveling and Unbreakable that I own says that I have Ben. He is definitely mine. [I would later also win a signed copy of Unbreakable from Pitch Dark for participating in the Unraveling read along.]

When Eleanor & Park was released, everyone and their mother told me to read it.  The ever so awesome Jaime offered to get me a signed copy when she went to Rainbow's event.  I think she ended up getting 11 copies or something...

Either way, I'm quite grateful she was willing to get me a copy.  The book is amazing and I can't wait to meet Rainbow myself.

Jaime also went to the Pitch Dark Days event.  I had already ordered Elizabeth's books [plus extra copies at her launch party, but that's another story] and was hoping hoping hoping that Amy Tintera would be doing additional events in SoCal.  Her launch party was at the Bookstore-Which-Shall-Not-Be-Named and I refused to go.

However, Kiera Cass hasn't been to SoCal yet... Not one to wait, I asked Jaime to get me a signed copy of The Elite.

I had gotten my arc of Invisibility signed by Andrea Cremer when I saw her at Mrs. Nelson's for the Breathless Reads tour. When the tour dates were announced for Andrea and David to promote Invisibilty, I was unable to get up to the San Francisco date. Thankfully, Colleen was going to be attending the Seattle date. I sent the arc to her and asked for David's signature to be added.

I truly have the best friends.  And who's a spoiled brat?  I am!

What books have you gotten lately?

The time I succumbed to peer pressure.

When John Green's The Fault in Our Stars came out, it was everywhere.  I got an email from Barnes and Noble apologizing to me for sending it out early [when I didn't even pre-order it].  I had called a bookstore about a different signing and ended up talking to the employee about how amazing it was.  Swoontini reviewed and highly recommended it.  There were two women at the Megan Miranda signing who were going on and on and on about it.

I had absolutely no intention of reading it.  No matter how phenomenal the writing was, no matter how swoony the boy was, the subject matter was not anything I was interested in.  The day after it came out, I went to Barnes and Noble to pick something else up and told myself if there was a signed copy on the shelf, I would buy it.  There wasn't.

And yet, eventually I broke down and bought a copy.  Stupid Mysterious Galaxy and their stupid email telling me they had stupid signed copies.

Cinder was on my radar right away.  Unfortunately, Marissa Meyer didn't get anywhere near me, but I was able to order the book without incident.  Hopefully, when the next book in the series comes out, she'll get closer to me.

Kings English also had a copy of Matched by Ally Condie.  This one took me some time to hunt down and I didn't want to wait until she toured for book 3.  Now I don't have to.

Books of Wonder always has a good selection of signed back stock. When Julie Cross told me that she wasn't getting to the west coast to tour for Tempest, I ordered a copy during the huge-five-authors-in-one-night-extravaganza.

Since I didn't want to send that lone book across the country by itself, I ordered Wither by Lauren DeStefano and The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson to keep it company.

The time I bought even more autographed books.

A Beautiful Dark had been on my to read list for a while.  I was able to hunt down an autographed copy from Books of Wonder in NYC... Ordering it was super easy and it came in the mail quickly.

I saw an ad for The Pledge in an issue of EW.  I found out that Kimberly had done a signing at a Barnes and Noble about a week prior to me finding the ad.  I called to see if they had any additional copies.

First the girl said she didn't think so, but she'd look.  After finding one, she didn't think she could send it to me.  Once a manager told her she could send it to me, she didn't think she could take my credit card number over the phone.  What should have been a 5 minute conversation took me about 20 minutes.

However, I was able to get my copy....

While at MGRB waiting for the Marie Lu release party, I stumbled across a signed copy of Gretchen McNeil's Possess.  I had already ordered the book, so I decided not to get the autographed copy.  Of course, after I read the book, I just had to have the signed copy.  So, I ordered it from MG.

Annnnnd, when I was looking at the MG website, I found other signed books that I wanted to buy... I had never even heard of John Grisham doing any sort of signing event so when I saw that they had a signed copy of his new book, I was dying to have it.

When I went to pick up those signed books from MG, I stupidly walked into the YA section. And of course I found things I wanted to get....

Like a copy of Unearthly by Cynthia Hand. I was planning on just having the copy I already own signed when she toured for Hallowed, but that pretty purple pen just ruined me.

And a copy of Fury by Elizabeth Miles, which is on my to read list.

Just proof that I shouldn't be allowed inside bookstores unsupervised.
