The time it was six geese-a-laying

So now we're adding geese to our bird sanctuary? Wow.  Well, here we are for day six of the 12 Days of Christmas giveaway.  We're officially halfway through this!

Today we have the ever so lovely Amy Plum on the blog, sharing a Christmas memory.  Let's welcome her, shall we?

My dad hated Christmas. When I was around nine years old, he decided that we would receive the Christmas presents we asked for, but after opening them, had to give them to a "poor family," as he put it. So, we opened our presents and then piled into the car and drove to the "bad part of town" (again, my dad's words) and met a family that our church must have set my dad up with.

We gave them a box of food, and then my sister and I had to hand over our Christmas presents. I did what Dad expected without complaining (even at that age, I knew he was crazy). But my sister had a meltdown when she had to hand over the Barbie doll that she had been asking Santa for for ages. She just stood there and cried and wouldn't let go of it, and the little girl she was supposed to be giving it to looked even more upset than she was (probably at being forced to go through this farce in front of strangers).

Needless to say, that was the last Christmas my dad tried that experiment. And I don't think my sister ever forgot it. One of the Christmas presents she gave to her own daughter when she was old enough: a whole load of Barbie dolls.

Huge thanks to Amy for taking the time! Make sure you're following her on Twitter, liking her Facebook page, subscribing to her blog and adding all of her books on your GoodReads shelves.

And now for the giveaway!

In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.

When Kate Mercier's parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life--and memories--behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.

Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate's guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he's a revenant--an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.
That's right.  Up for grabs is a signed paperback copy of Die For Me. Rules for the giveaway are under "terms and conditions" on the Rafflecopter widget, this contest is international!

  1. Every year I do. If there is something I know I won't use I will give it away to someone I know will make good use of it.

  2. Yes, most of it are food or gift certificate though. I'm really sentimental so I can't give away things that are personally given to me.

  3. I gave away a white elephant gift once, it was a candle and I really didn't have a use for it!

  8. I have re-gifted if I thought the other person would like it more. I understand the thought behind that idea, but I don't think forcing a kid to give up their new Christmas toys is a good idea- better to donate used toys or buy something new for the cause.

  11. I don't think it's a good idea at all.... in my opinion it's even cruel.... ( i would have hated my dad if he put something like that) not that i don't think we should share but better give something we want or special bought for than than to force a child to see his/her dreams come true and destroy it next

For me christmas gift ar like all gifts "sacred" the person who offer it thought about it put his heart in making it ( or finding it) so i couldn't give it away or resell it

  12. I haven't. But it wouldn't be a bad idea... Maybe someday I would do it. <3

  14. I have never given away any of my presents. Most of the presents I've received from any of my friends and family either know me well enough to know what I want OR they take me shopping themselves and make me choose my present(s), so... there's no real reason to give them away! :D Since I mostly ask for books, though, sometimes I do loan them out... >u<

  15. I've regifted in the past when it's a gift that wasn't something personal or thoughtful--like a lotion set or a trinket that wasn't something really special from the gifter. Otherwise, no.

  16. No, I'm also pretty sentimental.

  17. No, I don't think I would be able to give away a gift I just received

  18. Yes, if I know I won't use it, why not give it away to someone who could actually use the item.

  19. I use most of my gifts (since I really don't get many and don't want many). One year I gave one or two of my gifts to someone else only because they didn't get anything and I didn't want them to be left out.

  20. Only if I know that person will take better care of it than me! :)

  21. Nope, I wouldn't feel god if I did that.

  22. No, not usually. Only when I was younger when we did a gift exchange at school, I would give the present to my little sister if I didn't like it. :)

  23. No never but I might use a gift card that was given to me to buy something for a friend.

  24. I don't think I've ever straight up given away a present, but I do remember switching one with my sister. Thanks for the chance at the giveaway!

  29. Well, this Christmas, my parents gave me a stuffed animal that I loved, and then I found out that they gave the exact same one to some stupid girl, which was pretty devastating... :'(
